Ludwig, un roi sur la lune
COLLABORATION ∙ THEATER
Madeleine Louarn & Entresort
2016
Choreographer (with Loic Touzé) of Madeleine Louarn’s theater piece Ludwig, un roi sur la lune
Produced by Théâtre de l’Entresort, the play premiered in Avignon, (Fr) in 2016.
A legendary king, a mad king, a king who never fully wished to be king—Ludwig II of Bavaria is as admired today as he was once disliked or misunderstood during his reign. The man who wrote, “I want to remain, for myself and for others, an eternal enigma,” succeeded beyond all expectation, becoming one of the most iconic figures of German Romanticism.
Madeleine Louarn and the actors with disabilities of Atelier Catalyse, with whom she has worked for over twenty years, have chosen to place this figure at the heart of their next production. Together with long-time collaborators—Frédéric Vossier (text), Rodolphe Burger and Julien Perraudeau (music), Loïc Touzé and Agnieszka Ryszkiewicz (choreography)—they will explore the fantasies and dreams of this mysterious and explosive king.
They will follow his absolute quest for a life that touches the sublime, the deep contradictions that inhabit him, and his gradual withdrawal from reality into a world of fiction—the slow path of his disintegration. From this fall, they create a journey into Ludwig II’s mind, building a musical and choreographic piece where nature, the arts, and excess lead into the realm of the fantastic.
A theater where the question of art and of beauty can belong to everyone, regardless of social backgrounds or differences.
