Narcisse embarks us on a journey, that of a character in search of himself. With every steps he takes, he transforms multiple and enigmatic materials, his environment, the forces that inhabit it, in a succession of metamorphosis.

Narcisse explores the unsuspected depth of matter as well as invisible and mysterious physical forces, such as gravity or magnetics. Assemblies and superpositions of matter take place until ephemeral structures arise. From compact to aerial. From geometry to abstraction. Recognizable and intriguing signs appear, characters, situations… Reflections are omnipresent and body doubles multiply under masks and locks of hair. Matter comes to life. We navigate between the strangely familiar and the uncanny, between magic and burlesque.

Narcisse talks as well of leaving childhood and growing to occupy one’s place. Growing to access the political dimension of the adult world, where spring also stands for renewal and revolt. It is a sensitive criticism of our society and this contemporary Narcissus offers a hypothesis of how to be together and how to imagine a possible future.

How are we educating our gaze and our listening? What does, essentially, forge our perceptions, our sensitivities? And beyond that, our identities? Fabrice Midal in Narcisse n’est pas égoïste 2019
